Workshop on Raising your Bilingual Child followed by tour of the ISL Surrey Primary School
Horizon Mandarin School invites Mrs Susan Stewart, Head of Multilingualism, ISL Surrey Primary School, to give a talk to parents who are interested in preserving the family’s mother tongue of home language in an English -speaking environment. Susan speaks 6 different languages and worked all around the world, including South Africa, Middle East, North Europe, Asia. She currently is the Chairman of ‘ECIS MLIE’ (Multilingual Learning in International Education). She will provide tips on gracefully negotiating the many language issues within a multilingual family whilst developing both the child’s mother tongue or home language and the English language.
This workshop includes tips for:
- Maintaining your mother tongue or home language
- Developing your child’s English
Directly after the talk, the Headteacher of Horizon Mandarin School will introduce the new Chinese school to parents and followed by a great chance to tour the school till 12:30pm.

Mrs Susan Stewart 是 ISL Surrey Primary School 独特的母语教学模式的策划者。ISL Surrey 的母语教学模式富有创造性，十分有效，深受欢迎。Susan 在南非，中东，北欧，亚洲等地工作过，会六种语言，是‘语言的终身学习者’。现任‘国际教育多种语言教学委员会’ ECIS MLIE (Multilingual Learning in International Education) committee 的主席。
讲座的目标听众是努力为孩子在英语大环境下积极创造母语小环境的家长们。讲座将为家长们传授培养孩子语言能力的经验，建议和实用技巧；帮助身处双语环境而深感两难的家长，巧妙地与孩子斡旋，处理好语言学习的难题，打开孩子英语和母语齐头并进的新局面。
讲座完毕后，Susan 以及天地中文学校的负责人将带领家长们参观教学场地，手工作坊场地，家长休息茶室等场所，并详细介绍天地中文的教学模式，理念，和目标，回答家长的问题。
